One thing that is for sure about the Disney College Program is that it flies by. It seems like yesterday I was unloading all of my stuff from my overpacked car into my new home. Today, I sit here and realize that I have about 11 weeks left of the program. 11 weeks? How is that possible?
I feel for those who only do the regular program, not an advantage program. There time here must really go by in a flash. The saying “time flies when you’re having fun” most definitely reigns true here at the happiest place on earth. You think coming into this program that you’re going to have all the time in the world to get to do what you want to, but unfortunately by my bucket lists you can see I haven’t even put a dent in what I thought I wanted to do.
Now don’t fret, I’m still working hard to get some of the bucket list knocked out. Stay tuned!
Aside from working on my bucket list and making the most of my time left here, I have been working to determine my post DCP plans. There is the option to extend your program. This means that you have the option to stay and either live in DCP housing or move out of disney housing. But you also have the option to stay in your current location and role or change both or one. For some this is the perfect option, for others like me, it doesn’t make sense.
Sure, my time here at Disney has been everything I could have hoped for. I got lucky with my location and role. But applying to professional internships and jobs using my major is the right route for me. I applied to nine, yes nine, professional internships. Some may say that is too many. Why? Because it could come across as not knowing what you want to do. But I’m going with the “my interests are wide.” Two are still in progress, fingers crossed!
This stage of the program is tricky, juggling wanting to work to make money and save, but also wanting to make money to buy merchandise! O but don’t forget about wanting to be able to spend days in the parks with the friends you don’t know how much longer you’ll be in the same state as and needing to apply to jobs and find housing. Balance is key right now. Organization, planning all of that; but there’s not enough time in the day to do it all. I mean a girl needs some sleep too right?
Don’t take any of this out of context because I would say the same thing over and over again. Do the program. Do it. The expierence, the resume building opportunities, the networking, the people is all irreplaceable. Just be prepared for the jump back into the real world, out of the disney bubble.
