As I am coming up to my third week here at the Disney College Program, I have just about earned my ears. Yesterday was my first day on my own without a trainer. It went well all things considered. The trainers tell you lots of good information about your location but theres so many things that they don’t get to or think we should know already I guess.
For me, having little to no retail background and being a person who likes details and lots of information, this has been the hardest part. Luckily, my co-workers are great and are always willing to answer questions and help out. My earning my ears ribbon on my name tag will be staying for a while longer until I feel more comfortable.
Asking For Help
To any of you who are going to be doing merchandising be prepared to ask others for help, unless you have a background in merchandise. When I go into work, I clock in obviously but then am given an assignment that tells where I should go and what I will be doing. There are numerous options as to what kind of assignment you can get. Stocking, register, folding, entertaining guests, the list goes on. Personally, I have enjoyed the stocking positions and when i get to work with the pandora section of the store. The organization, numbers and logic behind the stocking is appealing to me and getting to help customers chose a pandora charm or build there first bracelet is fun!
Pin Trading is also something that I am growing to enjoy. This is allows for a lot of guest interaction and is so much fun to see the little ones who are just getting into Pin Traders getting excited for finding a pin they love.
Work, Work, Fun, Fun
So far, I have had two days off a week. These days have been spent in the parks, with roomies. Cast Members are blocked out of the water parks starting June 11 this year, so we did Blizzard Beach before we couldn’t any more. We also visited Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.
I was worried that we wouldn’t be able to make use of the FastPass system but we have had good luck with getting FastPasses the night before and the day of.
The Disney College Program has proven to be filled with lots of fun and work too and i’m excited to see what is to come!
