Change is a good thing. Thats’s what people say all the time, right? – Is it true though? This blog post is dedicated to my opinions about the changes being made throughout the parks at Walt Disney World. This is one of the hot topics on the Disney College Program Facebook group pages. Specifically, the changes being made to Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been put up for debate.
“Don’t fear change, you may lose something good, but you may also gain something great.”
Personally, if I have learned anything within the past few months it is that change is a good thing! When something is not working or is not making you, or the public happy (in Disney’s case) anymore, then work to change it or start over. Change is scary don’t get me wrong! When something has worked for so long, and been so good, providing lots of memories, laughter, happiness and so much more, it is hard to walk away, but just as Disney has with Hollywood Studios, I recognized I needed a change. I deserved better. I needed to make myself happy. Okay- now that got kind of off topic-ish, but it reigns true. Change has the opportunity to bring along something better.
An Abundance of Closures
This is how I feel towards all the wondrous changes being made/coming to Walt Disney World. On Saturday April 2, 2016, Disney fans said goodbye to many loved attractions at Hollywood Studios. Light Motor Action, Streets of America, Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure, the Mike and Sulley Meet and Greet and numerous shops closed. This was not the first closure to happen in Hollywood Studios though. Prior to these closures, the Phineas and Ferb Meet and Greet, the Lightening McQueen and Tow Mater Meet and Greet as well as the Back Lot Tour had all closed. All these closures leaves you to wonder what the heck is going on!?
O I almost forgot about the removal of the HAT!! Like what? And the Earful Tower might be leaving now too. (From what I can find, its still in the rumor stage, but we will see.) What is the iconic image of Disney’s Hollywood Studios now?
The Good Part
Now whoa, don’t completely freak out. Great things are coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land are in the works! Whoo! Personally, I am more excited about Toy Story Land than I am Star Wars Land but thats probably because I have never seen the Star Wars movies. (Don’t hate me, it’s not that I don’t want to see them, I just haven’t. It’s on my to-do list.) Plus, I am a huge Pixar fan! I mean I got Toy Story in my easter basket this year because I wanted my own copy.
While these massive updates are underway, there is a bit of good in all the mess. Those of us who have the luxury of time while at Walt Disney World, don’t have to worry about whether a day at Hollywood Studios is worth it or not. I predict that the meet and greet lines will be shorter as well as the other lines because less people will be drawn to the park. Yes, there are still big attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios- Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Fantasmic to name a few- I don’t think the same crowds will be drawn there to spend the same amount of time in that park. Now, I hope I am wrong for Disney’s sake. The advertiser in me is anxious to see how/if Disney employees a strategy to combat this potential side effect of all theses changes.
For me, the changes that not only Disney’s Hollywood Studios is experiencing, but all of Walt Disney World’s changes, is an exciting part of participating in the Disney College Program at this time. I will be able to see first hand how these changes undergo. Some of these will by no means be completed while I am there, but some of the changes will be complete. I hope that I will be able to be a part of the launch of new attractions, restaurants and stores within the parks.
